Thursday evening razed down about 400 wooden structures at Asawase, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region.
The slums housed scrap dealers and head porters, popularly called ‘Kayayei’.
It is not yet known what might have triggered the fire which started around 7:15pm when occupants were trading in the markets in town.
Nobody was injured in the inferno.
This follows a gas station explosion near the Accra International Trade Fair Center in Accra on Thursday which six people were reported dead.
